6.23 carat “Old Mine” Colombian Emerald Ring

Elegant and feminine, this rare, round, Colombian Emerald is surrounded by 233 brilliant cut diamonds micro pavé set into a delicately patterned platinum gallery. The Emerald is Gubelin Certified and the ring is signed S. H. Silver Company 12100.

This stone is unique not only gemologically, but because of its round shape. Due of the nature of its crystal structure, emerald (which is from the mineral family called Beryl) is usually cut into the traditional square or rectangular “emerald cut”. The most desired origin for emerald is Colombia, in particular a mine at Muzo, not far from Bogota, an area which has yielded emeralds of the most beautiful, saturated deep rich grass green color. This material is highly prized and is often referred to as “old mine” material.

Emerald owes its color primarily to small traces of chromium, the same element that gives rise to the fine red of Burmese rubies. Large Emeralds of this quality, free from flaws are as rare as Burmese rubies.

As beautiful underneath as it is on the top, this platinum custom designed and crafted ring, set with a 4.03 carat Fancy Vivid Yellow cushion cut diamond, is comprised of a cushion framed crown above a star patterned, beveled under gallery; micro pavé set with white and yellow round brilliant diamonds.

This extraordinary ring is accompanied by a GIA Certificate and is signed S. H. Silver Company 12807. For a diamond to be labeled fancy-color, the stone must have a certain strength of color.

Only a minute percentage of diamonds mined yearly are eligible for fancy-color status. This magnificent yellow diamond has been classified “Fancy Vivid”, the top grade for yellow diamonds given by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and other major laboratories. The term “canary” diamond is often synonymous with yellow diamonds of this quality.
